The following easy steps will have you participating in eClass Live! sessions in no time at all. This material is for participants and moderators.

Preparing to use eClass Live!

Below are the steps that you will need to follow before you attend an eClass Live! session. It is recommended that you follow these steps in advance of your first session.

Getting Ready

  • Ensure that you are at the computer on which you will attend your eClass Live! session, and that is it connected to the Internet.
  • Ensure that you have a microphone and speakers (either separate external microphone and speakers, or a headset that combines earphones and microphone, or the built-in microphone and speakers found on most newer laptops) to take full advantage of the audio capabilities during the session.
  • Ensure that you have administrator access to your computer and that you can install software. If you are unsure, please contact your system administrator.

Step One: Installing Java Web Start (Not required for Mac OS X users)

  • Verify that your machine has the required Java software to run eClass Live! by going to: http://www.elluminate.com/support/index.jsp. If you see a red alert, you will need to install Java Webstart. Otherwise continue to Step Two below.
  • Click the button labelled 'Download & install the required software'. This will take you to following Web page:
    http://www.elluminate.com/support/softwaredownload.jsp
  • Follow the instructions on the page (duplicated below):
    • Select your operating system.
    • Click Run if you see a security warning that asks “Do you want to run or save this file?...”
    • Click Run if you see a security warning that asks “Do you want to run this software? Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment...”
    • When you see the License Agreement, click “Accept”.
    • Click Finish
  • When the installation is finished, Java Web Start is ready to use!

Step Two: Testing eClass Live!

  • Access the eClass Live! Audio Test Room.
  • Once you are in the Audio test Session, follow the directions displayed on the whiteboard.
  • When complete, choose Exit from the File menu.
  • You can also access the Audio Setup when you use eClass to access Live! sessions. Click on the Audio Setup session as shown in the image below.

You have installed the required software, tested, and prepared to use eClass Live!. You can now join any future session without further configuration from the computer you performed this set up with. If you are using a different computer from the one you normally use, you should run the Audio Setup wizard again (Tools > Audio > Audio Setup Wizard and then follow the instructions).
