eClass Live! FAQ

How do I comply with FOIP while using eClass Live!?

The University of Alberta collects and protects personal information under the authority of the Alberta Freedom of Information and protection of Privacy Act for the purposes of operating the programs and services of the University.

The recording of live meetings in eClass Live! or chat sessions in WebCT fall under this legislation and every care must be taken to ensure the protection of the privacy of the individuals involved. In order to create and store these recordings the following conditions must be met:

1. Students must be informed that the recording is being made and what the purpose is. Ideally, this information is presented in written format in the course outline.

2. If a student objects to the recording, other arrangements will need to be made that will not have a negative impact on the academic record of the student.

For further information on FOIP and its application at the University of Alberta, please see the website for the Information and Privacy office at http://www.ipo.ualberta.ca.
